The tax increases prompted Băcănia Veche to significantly change its strategy, without giving up on investments. Marius Tudosiei, the company's entrepreneur, said Wednesday, at the launch of the Newmoney.ro – INSCOP Economic Sentiment Index, that the company had ended up paying taxes approximately 2.72 times higher than before.
Tudosiei says that the change in the level of taxation prompted the company to become more cautious about its plans and to rely mainly on the resources it controls. One of the first measures was to reduce debts and limit dependence on loans to finance development.
“We started getting rid of our debts,” said Marius Tudosiei, who emphasized that the taxes had “convinced us even more that we need to be very reluctant when it comes to our plans.”
Băcănia Veche has fewer than 30 employees and estimated annual revenue of 1.5–1.6 million euros. Because the same team manages several projects, the company is focusing its efforts on optimizing resources and on plans with limited exposure.
At the same time, for the first time, the company is concretely analyzing expansion into foreign markets, considering that its business model could be leveraged more effectively outside Romania. The company is also developing a catering division, which provides daily meals for approximately 500 children and includes food education programs.
