Alstom has presented the first converted diesel shunting locomotive to hydrogen propulsion, made at the factory in Salzgitter. The diesel engine has been replaced with a system that burns hydrogen, thus eliminating CO2 emissions. Testing will continue until October 2025, aiming to evaluate the performance of the technology. The project, financially supported by the city of Salzgitter, involves partnerships with various institutions and has the potential to significantly reduce CO2 emissions from rail transport.
