On Tuesday, officers from the Giurgiu Criminal Investigation Service carried out ten summonses in Giurgiu, Ilfov and Teleorman counties in a case concerning the falsification of electoral documents and records.
Investigators claim that several people from the same electoral bureau of a polling station in Giurgiu allegedly falsely certified that certain voters had cast their ballots. They allegedly forged signatures on the electoral lists and entered the identification details of those individuals into the computer system monitoring voter turnout.
Following the evidence gathered, seven people — five women and two men, aged between 35 and 58 — were detained for 24 hours. Three others, one woman and two men aged between 46 and 63, were placed under judicial supervision for 60 days.
The detained individuals are due to be brought before the competent prosecutor’s office on Wednesday, September 16, with procedural proposals. The investigation is continuing to establish the full scope of the criminal activity and identify all those involved. The suspects are entitled to the rights and guarantees provided by law throughout the proceedings.
