European Public Prosecutor’s Office prosecutors have indicted three people before the Bucharest Tribunal on charges of fraud involving European non-reimbursable funds. The case concerns 237 projects intended to support small farms and young farmers.

According to investigators, one of the defendants, a consultant, allegedly submitted false and inaccurate documents to the Agency for Financing Rural Investments. The documents were allegedly submitted on behalf of companies and family enterprises as part of projects financed with European Union funds.

The investigation seeks to establish how the documents were prepared and submitted, as well as each person’s role in obtaining the funding. The case will be reviewed by the Bucharest Tribunal, which is to examine the charges and the evidence gathered by prosecutors.

In the same case, 30 people have entered into plea agreements. They admitted to the acts under investigation, with the court due to rule on the agreements and the legal measures.
