Softronic Craiova has completed the modernization of the 19 electric locomotives for CFR Călători through PNRR

Softronic Craiova has announced the completion of the modernization of the 19 electric locomotives contracted by CFR Călători, as part of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). On June 24, 2026, the last locomotive entered service, being transformed from 5100 kW locomotives into models with asynchronous traction motors and ETCS level 2 system.

The contract, signed in December 2023, has a value of 67.45 million euros for modernization and 33.23 million euros for maintenance. The project improves the reliability and performance of rail transport, providing energy efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, and increased comfort for passengers.

The modernized locomotives are named after representative personalities of Romania's culture and history. CFR Călători continues the modernization of the rolling stock through other contracts, targeting a total of 75 locomotives.
