According to a study conducted by the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH), Germany recorded in 2025 the highest number of corporate insolvencies in the last two decades, with a total of 17,604 cases. This represents a significant increase, even compared to the financial crisis of 2009. Approximately 170,000 jobs have been affected, especially in the manufacturing sector, where 62,000 jobs have been lost. Experts warn that the situation will not improve in 2026, and the number of insolvencies could increase by 15-20%.

The causes of this crisis include a weak economy, high energy and personnel costs, excessive bureaucracy, and international competitive pressure. The automotive industry and the retail sector are particularly affected, and restructuring specialists expect an intensification of difficulties for many companies.
