The analysis conducted by Professor Dumitru Sandu from the University of Bucharest shows that Romanians who emigrated to the Nordic countries, the USA, and Canada have a significantly higher level of education than those who settled in Italy and Spain. Approximately 5.7 million Romanians officially live abroad, and data from 16 countries, including those mentioned, indicate a polarization of the education level in the Romanian diaspora. In 2010-2011, only 9% of Romanians in Italy had higher education, compared to 78% in Canada. In 2021, the situation worsened in Southern Europe, with 61% of Romanians in Spain having only primary education. Professor Sandu concludes that the differences in education can influence the incomes and cultural preferences of the diaspora.
