A 44-year-old Romanian is in critical condition at the Policlinico Umberto I Hospital in Rome, having suffered burns on various parts of his body after being attacked by another man without shelter. The incident occurred while the victim was sleeping in an improvised shelter in the San Lorenzo neighborhood, where both men live on the streets. The conflict between the two erupted over a spot in the shelter, and the attacker splashed the victim with a flammable liquid, fleeing immediately after committing the act.
The Carabinieri intervened quickly, along with medical personnel, and the Romanian was transported to the hospital, where, although he suffered severe burns, his life is not in danger. An investigation is underway, and authorities have confiscated a bottle of ethyl alcohol, suspected to have been used in the attack. The victim may be questioned soon, depending on his health condition.
