An Italian man is suspected of setting fire to a Romanian driver's truck over a debt of several hundred euros

A 47-year-old Romanian driver was targeted in an attack on the night of October 14, 2026, in Villapiana, Italy, after the truck he was using was set on fire. The vehicle’s trailer was damaged, and investigators suspect that the attack was linked to a debt of several hundred euros.

The DAF truck belongs to TCE Group and was parked when the incident occurred. Investigations by the carabinieri in Castelfranco Veneto and Asolo led to a 35-year-old Italian man from Fonte who was known to law enforcement. According to the investigation, he had repeatedly asked the driver to repay the money, without success.

The suspect allegedly bought two small bottles of gasoline from a self-service fuel station, then poured the fuel over the truck and started the fire. A search of his home led to the seizure of the clothing captured by surveillance cameras and the lighter believed to have been used to ignite the fire.

The truck was placed under seizure, while the man is being investigated while at liberty for arson-related property damage.
