Vlad Băltățeanu, investigated for murder in the case of Valentina Ioana Tănăsie, accepted simplified extradition to Romania after being arrested in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen. The arrest took place on September 28, 2026, based on the alert entered by the Romanian authorities into the Schengen Information System.
The Swiss Federal Office of Justice confirmed that the man is suspected of killing a woman in Romania and that, after the initial hearing, he expressed his consent to being handed over to the Romanian authorities.
Accepting extradition under the simplified procedure means that the suspect waives the right to oppose the handover. The Swiss court verifies whether the decision is free and informed and whether there are any legal impediments. If extradition is admissible, the consent is recorded in a final judgment, without the need to go through all the stages of the ordinary procedure.
Valentina Ioana Tănăsie, aged 28, was found dead on September 22, in a suitcase floating on the Olt River, near the Ionești Dam in Vâlcea County. The autopsy indicated a violent death, with severe head trauma and fractured ribs.
Vlad Băltățeanu, the young woman’s boyfriend, became the main suspect. The Vâlcea Tribunal issued a preventive arrest warrant for him in absentia, and investigators determined that he had allegedly left Romania before the body was discovered.
