Ukraine used the FP-7 tactical ballistic missile in combat for the first time, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Thursday, without specifying where it was used or the target of the attack. The information was reported by Reuters, as cited by Agerpres.
“Ukrainian FP-7 tactical ballistic missile. First combat use. Thank you for the result. Next step — production,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram. The statement marks the system’s transition from the testing phase to operational use and indicates Ukraine’s intention to begin producing the missile.
Russia frequently uses ballistic missiles in attacks on targets in Ukraine, while the development of indigenous short-range weapons is considered a priority by Kyiv for strengthening its defenses.
Earlier this year, Zelenskyy praised the results of tests conducted with tactical ballistic missiles, saying they had demonstrated strong potential for use by the armed forces.
Ukrainian military analysts describe the FP-7 as a missile with a range of approximately 200 kilometers. Its manufacturer, Fire Point, says the weapon is also being developed as a ballistic interceptor under the European Freyja missile defense program, launched this year. Kyiv wants a prototype of the system to be completed in the first half of next year.
