Vitalie Pirlog, former justice minister of the Republic of Moldova, was arrested on June 15 in the United Arab Emirates on an international warrant. Extradited to France, he was charged with several offenses, including active corruption and trading in influence. After challenging his arrest, the Paris Court of Appeal rejected his appeal. Pîrlog is suspected of helping suspects obtain asylum status to block Interpol Red Notices, and the bribes involved could run into millions of dollars.
