On August 14, 2026, around 1:00 AM, two Romanian citizens, a 38-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, were intercepted at Otopeni Airport upon arrival from Luton, United Kingdom.

They headed towards the corridor designated for travelers without goods to declare, but the border police and customs officers had suspicions and decided to check their luggage. Following the inspection, they discovered a total amount of £35,770, hidden and undeclared.

Since the amount exceeded the legal limit of €10,000 or its equivalent in another currency and had not been declared, the authorities seized the money. The man and the woman were sanctioned administratively, each receiving a fine of 3,000 lei for violating customs legislation.
