The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a notice for Romanian citizens traveling to Bulgaria, announcing difficult traffic conditions on the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge during the period of February 22-23, 2026, due to heavy snowfall and a large volume of heavy traffic. Romanian and Bulgarian authorities have decided that cars will have priority over heavy traffic to reduce waiting times. The MFA provides contact numbers for support and recommends checking official websites for updated information.

Additionally, repair works on the bridge, which began on January 8, are affecting traffic, but alternative transit is ensured. Drivers are advised to avoid the Giurgiu-Ruse Bridge and to use alternative routes, such as the Calafat-Vidin Bridge or the Bechet-Orjahovo Crossing, depending on the type of vehicle and traffic conditions. Checking information from the Border Police and using traffic applications are recommended for safer travel.
