The mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, and the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, signed a financing contract for the establishment of the city's first photovoltaic park, valued at 32,228,089 lei, funded through the Modernization Fund. This park will have a capacity of 5.6 MW and will produce nearly 7,800 MWh of green energy annually, covering two-thirds of the necessary consumption for public lighting, which will reduce monthly costs estimated at over 1.2 million lei.

The project will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 4,800 tons of CO₂ annually. The municipality will soon launch procedures for the procurement of design and execution services, and this park is part of a broader plan for transitioning to renewable energy sources and reducing pollution, including a partnership with OMV Petrom for the use of geothermal energy.
