In 2026, three teenagers from Gorj County became mothers, attracting the attention of the General Directorate of Social Assistance and Child Protection (DGASPC) Gorj. The youngest mother is only 13 years old, while the other two are 15 years old.

According to the spokesperson of DGASPC, Minodora Sucea, in 2024 there were 26 minor mothers, and in 2025, 24, which shows a slight decrease in the number of cases. All minor mothers are monitored by authorities, which send semi-annual reports to DGASPC for a year. Regarding the abandonment of babies in hospitals, DGASPC reported that there were no cases of abandonment in 2025 and 2026, according to the current legislation that requires hospitals to notify the authorities in such situations.
