A researcher of Romanian origin has been awarded the "American Nobel" for medicine, after discovering an innovative treatment for a lethal disease.

Paul Negulescu, a Romanian-born biologist, received the Lasker-DeBakey Award for his contribution to the development of the Trikafta therapy, a revolutionary treatment for cystic fibrosis. This combination of medications has radically changed the life expectancy of patients, transforming a deadly disease into a manageable one and giving millions of people the chance for a longer and healthier life.
