Three directors from the arms industry, detained by DNA for bribery

Three directors from the Romanian arms industry have been detained by prosecutors from the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) for bribery.

They are Rafiu Mihai, the director of the Bucharest Mechanical Plant, Pîrvu Tiberiu Alexandru, the general director of the Plopeni Mechanical Plant, and Sorescu Liliana, the commercial director of the same plant. The three will be presented on Friday to the Bucharest Tribunal, where prosecutors will request preventive detention.

The Bucharest Mechanical Plant, part of the National Company ROMARM, is essential in the defense industry in Romania, being responsible for the production and modernization of armored vehicles, including the TR-85M1 tank. It also collaborates with General Dynamics Land Systems for the Piranha V armored personnel carriers, delivered to the Romanian Army.

These detentions highlight corruption issues in the defense sector.
