The National Anticorruption Directorate is conducting searches at three locations in Romania, including the headquarters of Global Defense Logistics SRL and the homes of private individuals, as part of an international investigation into alleged fraud against NATO. The operation is being coordinated with authorities in the United Kingdom, Norway and Germany, with support from EUROJUST.
Global Defense Logistics SRL is the company in which Gabriel Daraban, the brother of Mihai Daraban, president of the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is a director and holds a 10.38% stake. The largest shareholder is MORAN TEVFIK LUTFI, with 48.18%.
The investigation concerns the contracting of NATO naval military services through the NSPA. According to Norwegian prosecutors, five people have been detained in Norway, where searches were also conducted at homes and company premises. In Germany, checks were carried out under a European Investigation Order.
Mihai Daraban says he has not been and is not involved in the company’s operational activities. He explained that the company works with approximately 50 subcontractors in several countries and that they have direct contact with the crews of military vessels. Gabriel Daraban was a passenger on private flights to Mykonos previously investigated by the Bucharest press.
