The unemployment rate in Romania reached 6.1% in March, an increase compared to the previous month.

In March, the unemployment rate in Romania rose to 6.1%, up from 6% in February, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). This translates to an estimated number of 503,700 unemployed, an increase from 494,700. The unemployment rate among young people (15-24 years old) was alarming, reaching 28.2%.

In comparison, at the level of the European Union, Eurostat reported 13.226 million unemployed, a decrease of 25,000 compared to February. The unemployment rate among women in Romania was 6.3%, surpassing that of men, which was 6%. In the euro area, the unemployment rate was stable for men at 6% and 6.5% for women.

The lowest unemployment rates in the EU were recorded in the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Poland, and Malta, while Finland, Spain, and Greece had the highest rates. Eurostat defines unemployment according to the criteria of the International Labour Organization, and INS data highlights a worrying situation among young people, with a significant rate of 28.2%.
