The UN Security Council will meet on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 3:00 PM New York time, at the request of Romania, following the incident in Galați, where a drone of Russian origin crashed into a building, injuring two residents.
The Romanian Ambassador to the UN, Cornel Feruță, announced that Romania requested this meeting based on Articles 34 and 35 of the UN Charter, which regulate the Council's intervention in situations that threaten international peace and security. Feruță emphasized that the drone's intrusion and the explosion in a densely populated area constitute serious violations of international law. The meeting will include the participation of Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Țoiu, who will address the seriousness of the situation and its impact on Romanian citizens.
