The Presidential Administration announced on Wednesday that the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, has convened a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defence (CSAT) on Thursday, October 22, 2026, starting at 18:00, at Cotroceni Palace, amid Russian attacks on commercial vessels and the intensification of risks posed by drones.
“During the meeting, the security implications arising from the incidents in the Black Sea will be analysed, and measures to strengthen the response capacity to protect Romania’s territorial waters and critical maritime infrastructure will be assessed. Other current topics in the field of national security will also be analysed during the Council meeting,” the Presidential Administration’s statement says.
The CSAT meeting was convened after Romania called for “stronger support through additional counter-drone, surveillance, reconnaissance and expertise capabilities, as well as an adapted and strengthened NATO posture in the region”.
This comes against the backdrop of the threats posed by drones and the need to protect maritime traffic.
Information from sources had been circulating since Tuesday that President Nicușor Dan would convene the CSAT.
