Cristian Radu, the suspended mayor of the municipality of Mangalia, has been sent to trial by the DNA, in a state of preventive detention, for crimes of bribery, money laundering, and incitement. Prosecutors claim that, between 2022 and 2025, Radu allegedly demanded and received, directly or through intermediaries, a total sum of 622,233 euros in exchange for favors related to the issuance of urban planning documents and other administrative actions. He allegedly requested sums of money to allow commercial activities on the beach without penalties, to reduce the purchase price of certain assets, and to obtain certificates of attestation for illegal constructions. Radu allegedly concealed the money by purchasing a hotel and incited other individuals to buy cars for his personal use. The DNA has requested the extended confiscation of the illegally obtained sums and has imposed a seizure on his real estate assets. The case has been sent to the Constanța Tribunal for trial.
