Cristian Radu, the suspended mayor of the municipality of Mangalia, will remain in preventive detention, according to the final decision of the Constanța Court of Appeal. The court upheld the detention measure after Radu withdrew his appeal against the previous criminal ruling.
He is being tried for corruption offenses, including bribery and money laundering, with a financial stake of over 600,000 euros. DNA prosecutors claim that Radu received large sums in exchange for issuing urban planning documents favorable to private individuals. Additionally, DNA has requested the confiscation of over two million lei, considering that these amounts were not obtained legally. His trial will continue, being one of the most serious cases of administrative corruption in the southern Romanian coastline. The court's decision underscores the seriousness of the charges and the pressure on the mayor.
