The Constanța Tribunal has decided to replace preventive arrest with house arrest for the suspended mayor of Mangalia, Cristian Radu, accused of five counts of bribery and money laundering. The decision is not final and can be appealed to the Constanța Court of Appeal.
Cristian Radu was placed in preventive arrest at the end of August, and DNA prosecutors claim that he demanded and received considerable sums of money in connection with the issuance of urban planning documents and other activities related to his position. Between 2020 and 2025, he allegedly received 645,000 euros, and in 2023, he demanded large sums to facilitate illegal commercial activities and to avoid administrative checks. Additionally, Radu concealed the sums of money by purchasing a hotel in the Cap Aurora resort.
