Cristian Radu, the suspended mayor of Mangalia, has been sent to trial by anti-corruption prosecutors for bribery and money laundering, being accused of receiving over 600,000 euros for issuing favorable urban planning documents. Recently, the Constanța Court of Appeal accepted his appeal, replacing the preventive arrest measure with house arrest for a period of 30 days, starting from March 10, 2026.
Radu is not allowed to communicate with the other defendant or witnesses in the case and can only leave his residence to appear before the judicial authorities. The court's decision is final, and prosecutors are seeking the confiscation of over two million lei from Radu, considering that the amount was not obtained legally. Cristian Radu has been in preventive detention since August 2025, and the day after his arrest, he was suspended from his position as mayor.
