The Supreme Court will analyze on Monday the appeal of Horaţiu Potra, his son Dorian, and his nephew Alexandru, against the maintenance of preventive detention, a decision made by the Bucharest Court of Appeal on January 9. Horaţiu Potra was arrested on November 21, 2025, for attempting to commit actions against the constitutional order and other crimes related to weapons and explosives. He was brought from Dubai, where he was caught in September, without an extradition agreement. Potra is involved in a complex case, alongside Călin Georgescu and 20 other defendants, accused of planning violent actions to destabilize Romania, in the context of the annulment of the 2024 presidential elections. Investigators claim that Potra coordinated a paramilitary group and planned violent protests, endangering national security. During police interventions, weapons and explosive materials were confiscated, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.
