The mayor Vlad Oprea announced that the Sinaia City Hall will initiate negotiations for the purchase of the Furnica Hotel, property of the Royal Family, and the proposal will be submitted for debate and voting in the Local Council in December. If the purchase is approved, a period of complex negotiations and planning for the future of the building will follow, having a significant impact on the identity of the town and the management of its heritage.
The Royal Family has notified the authorities about the intention to sell the hotel, valued at 3.7 million euros, and the Minister of Culture has decided not to exercise the right of preemption, transferring the responsibility to the Sinaia City Hall and the Prahova County Council. The building, originally constructed as the 'new stables' of the Peleș Royal Domain in 1912, later served as accommodation for royal staff and operated as a hotel. Local authorities must decide whether to keep this monument in the public heritage.
