In a press release, Silviu Geană, the leader of the SILVA Federation, called for the removal of the provision in the new Forestry Code that cancels the compensation of the former risk bonus of 25% of the base salary, recognized by the Romanian Parliament in 2008 for the difficult working conditions of foresters.
Although the Forestry Code adopted by Law no. 331/2024 introduced an equivalent increase, this was suspended by Emergency Ordinance no. 4/2025, which could lead to a decrease in the income of forestry staff. Geană emphasizes that the application of this provision does not constitute a salary increase, but rather a compensation for the loss of the risk bonus.
The Federation has requested the Ministry of Labor to eliminate this provision, warning that the adoption of the bill in its current form will affect thousands of foresters, who continue to face the same difficult working conditions. The SILVA Federation is open to consultations to protect the incomes of foresters.
