A new section of the Sibiu-Pitești Highway could be opened this year

Cristian Pistol, the general director of CNAIR, announced that the wear layer of asphalt is being laid on the last meters of section 4 Tigveni - Curtea de Argeș of the Sibiu - Pitești Highway.

The progress of the works on the 9.86 km is nearing 95%, an Austrian contractor is mobilized with 350 workers and 156 machines. The works include the arrangement of ditches, the installation of gabions and metal guardrails, as well as works on the 12 bridges and passages.

At the Momaia tunnel, the necessary equipment is being installed, and pressure tests for the fire extinguishing systems are underway.

Pistol mentioned that, due to the current pace, traffic could be opened earlier than the contractual deadline of February 2027. The project has a value of 1.678 billion lei, funded through the Transport Program 2021-2027.

The Sibiu - Pitești Highway is a major investment, serving to connect regions and complete the Pan-European Corridor IV. Three sections are under construction, and two have already been opened to traffic.
