The Romanian Orthodox Church warns about online frauds with fake clergy

The Romanian Orthodox Church has issued a warning regarding fraudulent activities carried out by individuals disguising themselves as nuns or priests to deceive people online. Recently, a man was tricked by a "fake nun," who promised him rituals to reconcile with his girlfriend, costing him nearly 7,000 lei. The Romanian Patriarchate emphasizes that it does not practice "fortune-telling, exorcisms, or witchcraft" and that such activities are not part of Christian teaching. The warning comes in the context of an increasing number of people using the Church's image to solicit donations on social media. In the recent case, the disguised woman was apprehended and placed under judicial control. The Church urges caution and avoidance of these traps.
