Mayor Mihai Chirica announced that the earthly remains of Grigore Alexandru Ghica, the last ruler of the Principality of Moldavia, will be repatriated from France and buried next to the Palace of Culture in Iași. The efforts for repatriation were carried out in collaboration with the heir family and the French authorities. The exhumation will take place on November 7, and the remains will arrive in Bucharest on November 8. The reburial ceremony will be an official one, similar to that of a head of state, and will include a funeral monument. Grigore Alexandru Ghica, ruler between 1849-1853 and 1854-1856, was an important leader, known for his initiatives in the field of gendarmerie and for his contributions to the development of Moldavia.
