The remains of Grigore Alexandru Ghica, the last ruler of Moldavia, have been repatriated from France and will be laid to rest on Sunday in the Hall of Union at the Cotroceni Palace. They were exhumed on Friday from the cemetery in Le-Mée-sur-Seine, with military honors, and brought to Romania, where they will be buried in Iași.
The Presidential Administration emphasized Ghica's importance in the history of Romania, highlighting his contribution to the modernization of institutions. The repatriation ceremony included the presence of the ruler's descendants, Romanian and French officials, as well as a memorial service at the Church of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Gendarmerie. Public access to the Cotroceni Palace will be allowed on Sunday, with strict security rules in place.
