President Nicușor Dan has promulgated a law that clarifies the responsibilities of truck drivers who carry out road freight transport with vehicles over 12.5 tons.

According to the new regulations, they cannot be forced by beneficiaries, suppliers, or intermediaries to perform loading or unloading operations of goods. The law comes in response to complaints from drivers who were often required to participate in the handling of goods, an activity that was not part of their duties. Non-compliance with these provisions is punishable by fines ranging from 5,000 to 20,000 lei.

There are exceptions, such as specialized transports or cases where the driver gives written consent. Additionally, any contractual clause that imposes on drivers the obligation to handle goods is null and void, and violation of this provision incurs penalties of up to 20,000 lei for carriers.
