A large intervention of law enforcement is underway in Otopeni, after a man, suspected of having killed his stepson, approximately three years old, in a beating, has barricaded himself in an apartment and threatens to jump from the balcony.

On August 23, 2025, a woman from Ilfov reported to the police that she had found her approximately 3-year-old son dead at home. Initially, she claimed that the boy had abdominal pain, but the autopsy on August 25 revealed injuries in the stomach area. Later, on August 28, the woman retracted her statement and claimed that she had been forced to lie, accusing her partner, the child's father, of assault. The alleged assailant, 28 years old, barricaded himself in an apartment in Otopeni, where he lived with his family without legal status, and threatened to jump from the balcony. Also in the apartment was his younger son, one year old, who was rescued by the assailant's brother and taken by the authorities. A SAS negotiation team intervened at the scene.
