Diana Buzoianu, the Minister of the Environment, requested a review of the report on the environmental impact assessment for the Surduc-Siriu project, emphasizing that the construction of the hydroelectric power plant will be approved only based on objective studies and data.

In October, the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, visited the commune of Gura Teghii, Buzău County, to discuss with locals about the continuation of works on the Surduc-Siriu hydroelectric power plant. Residents expressed concerns regarding the environmental impact and water resources. Buzoianu emphasized the importance of conducting serious analyses and requested a review of the environmental impact assessment report for the project. The hydroelectric project, initiated in 1981, takes place on the Buzău, Bâsca Mare, Bâsca Mică, and Zăbala rivers, in the counties of Buzău, Covasna, and Vrancea. Hidroelectrica has put out to tender the works for the completion of the Nehoiașu 2 power plant, with an estimated value of 178 million lei. The project is already 85% completed, and the new power plant will produce approximately 150 GWh of electricity annually.
