The mayor of Cluj, Emil Boc, stated that the metropolitan train project has entered the implementation phase, launching the tender for the acquisition of rolling stock. The train will have a route of approximately 49 kilometers, connecting Cluj-Napoca with the localities of Apahida, Baciu, Jucu, Bonțida, and Gârbău.

The project aims to integrate these areas into a rapid and sustainable transport system, with a minimum of five modern electric trains, each having a capacity of 420 passengers. The funding comes from European funds, the state budget, and local contributions. Boc emphasizes the major impact of the project on mobility and economic development in the area, transforming the metropolitan train into the backbone of Cluj for the years 2030-2050.
