Veronica Leonte, the interim manager of the 'Sfânta Maria' Emergency Clinical Hospital for Children in Iași, has resigned from her position after nearly six weeks, citing personal reasons. The Iași County Council confirmed the resignation, stating that Leonte will continue to coordinate the medical unit until December 1.
Her appointment took place on October 8, a day after the resignation of her predecessor, Dr. Radu Constantin Luca, in the context of a serious epidemiological crisis. In September, seven children died due to an infection with the Serratia Marcescens bacteria, which led to a change in the hospital's management. The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, identified serious irregularities in the hospital, including a lack of hygiene standards and necessary equipment in the ICU, which raised concerns about patient safety.
