The High Court of Cassation and Justice has filed a lawsuit against the Government and the Ministry of Finance, accusing them of the unjustified refusal to allocate funds for the payment of salary arrears of judges, established by final court rulings. The state owes 2 billion euros, and the High Court requests that the Government ensure the necessary resources for the payment of these amounts.
The court warns that delaying payments affects the rights of judges and undermines the principles of the rule of law. In the request for trial, the ICCJ demands the Government be obliged to pay the full amount of the arrears, issue the necessary documents, and establish strict deadlines for execution. This action comes in the context where, in recent years, there have been over 20,000 lawsuits filed by judges for outstanding salary rights, caused by unclear and interpretable legislation.
