In the context of increasing threats against judges, the Government of Romania adopted, on December 5, 2025, a decision establishing that their protection, as well as that of their family members and their property, will be ensured by the Romanian Police.

The normative act details the special protection measures, the conditions for their application, and amends Government Decision no. 719/2005 regarding the security of courts and prosecutor's offices. Protection measures can be requested by the heads of the courts or prosecutor's offices, and in case of immediate threat, judges can directly request police protection. The decision also defines the obligations of judges and the involved institutions, as well as the procedures for suspending and contesting the measures. The right to protection is regulated by Law no. 303/2022.
