Four police officers from the Bucharest Traffic Brigade have been placed under house arrest by the court, being accused of bribery and complicity in false declarations. They allegedly received approximately 2,000 euros to cover up a traffic accident caused by a driver under the influence of alcohol.

The incident occurred on the night of January 23/24, 2026, when the police intervened at an accident resulting in significant damage and a fire. In exchange for the bribe, the officers accepted a false version of the accident, allowing a woman to declare that she was driving the vehicle, although the actual driver was her brother, who had consumed alcohol.

In the same case, three other individuals have been placed under judicial control, including the driver's sister and the intermediaries of the bribe. The investigation continues under the coordination of the Prosecutor's Office next to the Bucharest Tribunal and the National Anti-Corruption Directorate.
