The Border Police announces that, starting from March 2, 2026, the Entry/Exit System (EES) will become operational at all border crossing points in Romania, including those with the Republic of Moldova, Serbia, Ukraine, and at maritime and air borders.
The EES is a modern electronic system that records the entry and exit data of citizens from third countries, collecting alphanumeric and biometric information, such as fingerprints and facial images. This system does not change existing travel rights but modernizes border management, streamlining controls and contributing to security within the EU. The collected data will be stored for a period of 3 years, and affected individuals have the right to access and rectify the information. Exceptions to fingerprinting apply to children under 12 years old and individuals for whom this is impossible.
