A new road bridge over the Tisa River, connecting Romania to Ukraine at Sighetu Marmației, is set to be opened to traffic at the beginning of July, according to the announcement by the president of CJ Maramureș, Gabriel Zetea.

The technical reception has been completed on the Romanian side, while the works on the Ukrainian side are ongoing, with an estimated completion date of June 15. The bridge, an investment of approximately 50 million euros, will allow the circulation of pedestrians and small vehicles, having a length of 264 meters.

Gabriel Zetea emphasized the difficulties encountered in completing the investment but highlighted the importance of this project for the economic development of the area. The current wooden and metal bridge will remain open after the inauguration of the new bridge. Over 400,000 ethnic Romanians live in Ukraine, and the bridge will facilitate connections between the communities on both sides of the border. The project also includes a new border crossing point, in accordance with Schengen standards.
