Traffic on the new bridge over the Tisa River will open on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 12:30 p.m., when the Sighetul Marmației II Border Crossing Point is inaugurated, the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company announced. The project creates a new road link between Romania and Ukraine.
The project included the construction of the road bridge over the Tisa and the infrastructure for the new border crossing point, including buildings, inspection halls, installations and the equipment required for operations. The opening will take place in stages, depending on the available infrastructure.
In the first stage, starting Thursday, vehicles intended for passenger transport, with a maximum authorized weight of up to and including 3.5 tonnes, will be allowed to cross through the Sighetul Marmației II Border Crossing Point. CNAIR has not announced the start date of the second stage, which will allow access for vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes and for buses.
The expansion to pedestrian traffic is planned for the third stage, scheduled for December 2027.
