The “Maramureș-Transcarpathia” Bridge, connecting the municipality of Sighetu Marmației with the town of Bila Tserkva in Ukraine, was inaugurated on Thursday, October 8. The structure crosses the Tisa River and is 268.8 meters long, representing a new road connection between Romania and Ukraine.
The project also includes the Sighetu Marmației II border crossing point. On Romanian territory, the road complex has a total length of 1.2 kilometers and is connected to the existing infrastructure by a roundabout built on DN18.
During the first stage, only motor vehicles with a total weight of less than 3.5 tons will be allowed to travel on the new bridge. The authorities intend to subsequently extend traffic to heavier vehicles and buses, after the border crossing point becomes operational.
Construction began in July 2022 and lasted more than four years. The project is worth 135.8 million lei. The investment was financed through the 2021–2027 Transport Program and carried out in partnership with the Maramureș County Council.
