The interim Minister of Transport, Radu Miruță, has decided to send the Control Body to the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) after it was accused of losses of at least 340 million lei in an arbitration related to the Sebeș-Turda Highway.
Horațiu Cosma, state secretary in the ministry, stated that the current CNAIR director, Cristian Pistol, signed an agreement with the Italian contractors in November 2021, which limited penalties to 150 million lei. However, the quality of the work was below standards, with landslides and closed sections. Following the arbitration, CNAIR was required to pay more than the agreed amount, and the Ministry of Transport received requests for payment of this arbitration from public funds. Miruță announced that he would notify the Court of Accounts for the assessment of the damage and identification of those responsible, emphasizing that serious problems continue to be discovered in the ministry.
