The acquisition of the La Cocoș supermarket chain by the German group Schwarz, which owns Lidl and Kaufland, is subject to strict conditions to ensure the preservation of the low-cost business model. The President of the Competition Council, Bogdan Chirițoiu, stated that the transaction is nearly finalized, after the German group accepted the requested commitments.
These include maintaining low prices and opening new La Cocoș stores. The Council had previously identified concerns related to the strengthening of Schwarz group's market position and the impact on consumers and suppliers. The group's commitments include capping the gross margin and protecting exclusive suppliers, ensuring that La Cocoș's business model remains intact for a period of two years.
