Șerban Bubenek, the president of the Romanian Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care, requested that Dr. Iuliu Torje be declared persona non-grata at the 'Carol Davila' University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, accusing him of defaming Romanian doctors, especially those in ICU, on social media. Bubenek mentioned that Torje was a repeat student at the Faculty of Medicine in Oradea, completed his studies in Sibiu, and left for Germany, where he became a specialist doctor. He also emphasized that Torje is not a member of the College of Physicians in Romania and does not have the right to practice in the country. Bubenek sent an open letter to the rector of UMFCD, Viorel Jinga, requesting the withdrawal of accreditation for the EST Congress, where Torje was announced as a speaker. He accused Torje of spreading unfounded statements about Romanian doctors from 2020 to the present. Torje recently announced his withdrawal from the EST Congress, stating that he wishes to keep the educational act pure, without personal tensions. He also decided to end any educational activity in Romania, including an ECMO course.
