The police of the Regional Transport Police of Timișoara conducted 21 home searches in the counties of Arad, Timiș, Hunedoara, and Alba, in a case targeting crimes related to thefts from railway infrastructure.

Following the searches, the police seized 200,000 lei, approximately 350 grams of gold, and cables originating from the railway infrastructure. Investigations revealed that, from May 2026 until now, employees of commercial companies involved in the rehabilitation of railway infrastructure systematically stole electrical cables from the old CFR infrastructure. These cables were subsequently sold to individuals who were aware of their illicit origin, being transported to an unauthorized site for burning, with the aim of extracting metals.

The burning activity generated polluting emissions, affecting the environment and public health, and the residues were illegally disposed of. The resulting metal masses were valorized through falsified documents to conceal their origin. Three men were detained for 24 hours and were placed in the Center for Detention and Preventive Arrest, according to IGPR.
