On September 3, 2026, officers from the Arad County Transport Police Service carried out six new searches in the case involving the theft of materials from railway infrastructure. The searches took place at the homes of suspected individuals and at the premises of two companies that process ferrous and non-ferrous scrap, under the coordination of the prosecutor from the Lipova District Court Prosecutor’s Office.
Investigators seized documents with evidentiary value, cable sections and other items considered relevant to the case. Following the examination of the evidence, the criminal investigation was extended to seven additional individuals. A total of 17 people are being investigated in the case.
So far, investigators have documented 280 material acts involving theft, receiving stolen goods, forgery of documents under private signature and offenses related to waste management. A total of 27 searches have been carried out, resulting in the seizure of 207,500 lei, 69,200 euros and approximately 400 grams of gold, which are suspected of having originated from criminal activities.
The investigation targets employees of companies involved in the rehabilitation and modernization of the railway, who are suspected of having systematically stolen cables from the old CFR infrastructure. The searches were supported by police officers from Arad, the Oradea Border Police, Arad gendarmes and CFR Infrastructure employees.{
